I know I am not a Republican so maybe there is some secret to understanding why they have been so passive in their dealings with Donald Trump. The man is beyond Republican criticism and, let’s be clear, the Republicans are the only ones who have the power to take on Trump — at least through normal political action.

If any Republican is inclined to challenge him, Trump delights in destroying that person. This reflexive Trump characteristic has virtually stopped any credible Republican regulation of the man.

The Democrats can scream and howl all they want but they simply don’t have the votes in Congress to take on Trump. So this leaves the Republicans as the only ones who can actually block him from making any bad decisions. They have, by and large, opted to watch him from the sidelines.

So, I am skeptical when Republicans say you may not like Donald Trump but he is better than the Democrats. As a rallying cry this lacks a certain, I don’t know, genuine enthusiasm for the man. Yes, we know he is bad and a lot of people don’t like him but the Democrats are worse.

This might be a tiny bit believable if there was any evidence that anyone in the Republican Party was interested in taking on Trump. They have had numerous opportunities to get rid of Trump for a better Republican — impeachment one, 2020 Republican nomination, impeachment two, 2024 Republican nomination, and the War Power acts following the Iranian War. Nothing happened.

They would rather leave us in the hands of a man with all the impulse control of a twelve year old boy after finding his father’s hidden stash of Playboy magazines.

When you keep making the same mistake over and over again, an average citizen might suspect that all you got is this stupid asshole and that you are willing to let him reek havoc on the country instead of reigning him in. What possible excuse could they have for foisting this man on the country and then trying to rallying the country with the cry of Trump maybe bad but he is better than the Democrats.

Oh, yes, now I remember why, power. But what power does any Republican have when the only thing that matters is how far up Trump’s ass they can get their tongues. Ass kissing is not power and it becomes useless skill when the person’s ass is no longer worth kissing.

The Republicans kept pushing Trump on the American electorate when they could have nominated somebody new. This leads me to believe that they got nothing and, by nothing, I mean nothing. All these Republican senators and governors running around and the Republicans couldn’t find anyone better to take up the mantle for small government Republicans, someone less alienating and corrupt than Trump. I mean they seriously evaluated their chances of winning and said each and every time — yes Trump is the best that we got. They couldn’t find anyone better.

Apparently not.

I do not know what 2028 will bring. It is too far down the road for anyone to see. My biggest concern is reigning in Trump now. I don’t see any Republicans willing to do that. So the Democrats it is.
