I am filling out my California ballot and I am faced with the propositions. I really hate voting for propositions because it requires me to do work unlike when I vote for actual candidates which requires a simple glance to the ballot for the Democrat identification and I know what to do.
But, after a couple of hours of investigation, I’ve made my peace with all but one proposition — Proposition 40 — the one time billionaire tax.
My heart is all in for taxing the bastards but the reality of it is most billionaires will figure out a way to avoid paying the taxes or leave California for states with less taxes. California will end up with little for their effort and a smaller tax base to boot. Is it really worth all of the paper work here?
On the other hand, I am inclined to vote for it just because it might make billionaires think twice before they tie the damsel to the train tracks and twirl their mustaches. Might is indeed the operative word there. Pigs might fly, right?
The worst case scenario it will force them to spend some time, money and effort in moving their dough. They may avoid paying the taxes but it will cost them something to do it which I suppose is something.
This is such a naked revelation of our billionaires’ actual patriotic fervor — they would rather pay accountants and lawyers to avoid taxes than give any additional money to the United States. Go team USA.
