For those still wondering why Trump got elected, look no further than the news that a lab leak was the likely cause of COVID19. Liberals and Democrats greeted this seemingly bombshell revelation with a sang froid that borders on indifference.

Now things would be different for me if the government scientists, at the time, were open to the possibility of lab leak being a possible explanation but they weren’t. They vehemently denied the possibility of a lab leak and accused any one who suggested it of being a racist. There is a big difference between an I don’t know and a they are wrong and shouldn’t be spreading such nonsense.

It is a big problem and the Left is ignoring it as if it never happened. Like if we don’t talk about it, it will somehow go away. Why would Trump and his buddies drop such a good example of government malfeasance? These people are not idiots. They also seem to have their pulse on a large segment of the American people. So I guess underestimating Trump and the wreckers will go on for the foreseeable future.

This is the only conclusion you can have when you consider:

  1. Trump was right about something very important. He claims that Dr. Fauci and the government scientists were lying about COVID and, it turns out, he was correct, at least about the lab leak theory. Yes there is still a low confidence that a lab leak is the culprit but it is now considered the most likely explanation of all the known possibilities. This isn’t what the government was saying in 2020. They were saying a Lab leak couldn’t be responsible and people who claim that a lab leak was responsible are racists. Trump has every right to gloat.
  2. It gives credence to every new crackpot theory that comes down the pike. All the crackpot has to say is well they lied about the lab leak theory. How do your respond to that? They are correct which is really bad news because too many people already listen to these crackpots. Now the voters have evidence that the crackpots are right. This is why the truth is important when dealing with people in a democracy. How does it help your cause to lie today when people will eventually discover you are in fact a liar?
  3. Belief in Government is already painfully low. This admission confirms every bad thing that the anti-government types claim our government does. If the Government wanted to momentarily placate the Chinese government while they got more information, I get it. This is a completely reasonable position. Withholding information, however, is different from a lie. The government could have said, and rightfully so, that they just don’t have enough information to determine the source of COVID and they are keeping an open mind. I can live with that. But no they aggressively denied any possibility of a lab leak. This turned into an overkill involving character assassination and dissembling. This was wrong especially since many of these scientists knew that a lab leak was the likely cause.
  4. Finally, it is an incredibly stupid lie to tell. If many scientists believed that a lab leak was responsible for COVID then this information was destined for revelation. Someone eventually was going to spill the beans. This should have been obvious as soon as scientists began sharing their suspicions with other scientists. So why lie in the first place? To keep the Chinese happy? Why? The Chinese stopped co-operating with UN officials fairly early in the crisis. Once this occurred what possible benefit could come from keeping the Chinese happy? But everybody in the know just kept their mouths shut. They may know a lot about biology but they are crap at public relations. They have damaged their reputation for being trustworthy. Why would the world believe these people when they announce the next pandemic?

This bothers me personally. I put my trust in these people because I saw no reason for them to lie and they knew more about viruses. Boy was I wrong. It is an unforced error that has done great harm to Liberalism, Science and Government — pillars of our democracy that are already under siege.

And, yes, I hold people on the Left to a higher standard which makes this so much more disappointing. I think democracy and liberalism are the best route to take for a better world. It hurts when my own side fucks up so royally. The good news is that you can’t say you don’t understand why some people voted for Trump. They believed they were being lied to and it turns out, in this case, they were right.

Newt Gingrich believes that Former President Barack Obama is running the Biden Presidency behind the scenes. Just in case you didn’t hear it, and I am sure because she wants to keep the American public informed on all the scuttlebutt in Washington, Megan Kelley passes along this little tidbit in a discussion she was having with another reporter. Neither one provided a bit of evidence that this was indeed what was happening. Never mind, it is vitally important to feed conspiracies to the hungry Right-Wing mob. They have difficulty holding up their pitchforks without a daily does of conspiracy.

Since they are purposefully vague about what Obama is actually doing, I am trying to identify what the actual problem is. If they mean that Biden is appointing the same people Obama worked with in his term. So what? Isn’t that standard operating procedures here? A new Democratic President will obviously use experienced Democratic operatives from a previous Democratic President in their appointments. If they are saying that Obama secretly jumps the White House fence every night so he can run the government while Biden sits drooling in his wheelchair, then I think they need to provide some details backing this speculation.

This innocent passing along of speculation because it it important for the public to know is just bull shit. The media loves it and, of course, will pass the scoop along with nary a second thought. They love controversy and if people provide them with controversies, they will publish it. Why, if people are talking about it, then it is news and it would be an absolute disservice to the American Public to keep such important information from them.

I don’t know about you but I am not sure passing along gossip counts as meaningful dialogue or responsible behavior. Perhaps one of the reasons that the American public holds the press and the government in such low regard is their questionable behavior in supplying the American Public with evidence about what they are saying.

For the record, I have absolutely no facts to back up what I am saying but I think it is really important to get this unsubstantiated information out there because it might be true and it is vitally important that the American Public weigh in on my idle speculation. It could be important or it could light a fuse to a keg of dynamite, who am I to judge, I am just telling you what I’ve heard.

I enjoy a good conspiracy theory as much as the next person. For me, though, a little evidence is required for me to take the bait and don my aluminum foil hat. This doesn’t seem to bother Vivek Ramaswamy, extremely long shot Republican candidate for President. He doubts the 9-11 Commissions findings. He wants to know how many armed US government officials were on board the planes that crashed into the twin towers. He admits he doesn’t have any idea or any information about how many were on board. Facts don’t matter. He has questions and damn it they must be answered.

The 9-11 commission admits to one government official being on board and he did not carry a gun. This isn’t good enough for Ramaswamy though, he needs another commission to confirm this fact. Now, I would think, and I am just guessing here, but in the spreading conspiracy theory world that’s all you need really, an inkling and nothing more, so I am going to go out on a limb here, that if there was any government official with a gun on board that day, they would have used it to stop the high jackers who only had box cutters. That this new commission is unlikely to discover anything new is besides the point. Coming from a candidate who claims fiscal responsibility is important to him this seems odd but then the similarly fiscally minded Republicans wanted 10 investigations into Benghazi even though each commission had remarkably similar findings.

Now Newt Gingrich, and, of course, another person who absolutely wants to rein in government spending on wasteful projects, claims that Former President Barack Obama is actually in charge of the government and not Joe Biden. Given that the Republicans claim that Biden is a doddering old man who should be in an old age home and not the White House, you would think they would take some comfort that Obama, a much younger and vigorous man, was actually in charge but no the nefarious Obama, partnered with the always evil Hillary Clinton, are up to no good. This is Gingrich’s theory, all gut instincts and no facts, and it needs investigating.

What bothers me about these obvious attempts to grab the media’s attention is that the media willingly just gives it to them. It is a remarkably easy method. Just say something outrageous and if you are half way famous person — the media will go out of their way to spread whatever bullshit conspiracy the person is talking about. I don’t blame Ramaswamy and Gingrich. They want attention and they know what they have to do to get it.

The media’s behavior is disappointing to say the least and belies the Republican argument that the media is against them. The media isn’t for or against anyone or anything. All they want to do is to sell papers. They are devoid of positions for the most part. So if anyone wants attention, all they have to do is say something outrageous and the media will do the rest. And you see where this takes us — Donald Trump, who, by the way, is out of office, gets 24/7/365 day coverage while the environment burns. There is not stop coverage of trans children which affects less than 1% of the students in public education because Governor DeSantis thinks it is the number one problem for American Education. It is all a diversion from what really matters. But never mind, I understand that there are some problems with deck chairs sliding on the Titanic. The good news is the passengers all have free ice.

Senator Ron Johnson, Republican from Wisconsin, thinks the an elite group of people pre-planned the COVID crisis in an attempt to take over the world. That is some accusation and disappointingly Johnson provides no proof of his assertion. He says it is happening and, he is guessing, that we will take his word on it. I don’t. The Elites are not particularly good at world domination as they have proven year after year since the dawning of recorded history.

So I am not particularly worried about it. Now, if he had said that the COVID crisis was mishandled, I might listen. There are questions I have about what happened. But that’s not what Johnson is talking about is it? He is talking about a group who planned to spread a deadly disease to every human being on the planet (including themselves) in order to gain control of the entire world. That is what Senator Johnson expects me to believe. And, to make matters worse, but I feel it is my civic duty to point out — Johnson is U.S Senator. Shocking, right?

If we learned only one thing from the COVID outbreak is that a lot of people will do what they damn well please no matter what they are told. I think they were absolutely wrong in this case but I take great comfort in the fact that they did it. Human Beings are amazingly difficult to control. Which brings me back to the Elites taking over the world. I’d like to see them try.
