There is something a little lame about Musk saying Trump has a connection to the infamous Jeffrey Epstein. It would matter if Musk discovered this connection and turned on Trump because of it. That isn’t the story here. It was more of another stone to throw at Trump as Musk was walking out the door. The truth is if he really cared about this sexual abuse accusation he never would have taken the DOGE job in the first place.

But he did with full knowledge of Trump’s connection to Epstein. The abused girls didn’t matter when he was working well with Trump. The only reason they matter now is Musk thinks he can hurt Trump with this information. How brave.

What a morally bankrupt man. There are no other words for it. Well, maybe — what an asshole.

The good news here is that he is taking on Trump. There is nothing quite as much fun as two assholes going after each other in a blood fight. You don’t have to root for a winner and hopefully they both come out of this rumble irreparably damaged. Fingers crossed.

Elon Musk clarified something that has been bothering me for some time. I was always wonder how Hitler could kill so many people. I mean he was just one man. It seemed highly unlikely, at least to me, that Hitler could dispatch six million Jews all by himself. But, then, Elon Musk comes along to explain that actually Hitler didn’t kill anyone, it was civil servants that did the actual killing.

WTF. Really, like this somehow absolves him. I do have to give him some credit for looping in the true evil here — civil servants. Not Hitler, but civil servants. Hitler is a misunderstood genius much like Elon Musk while civil servants, if left to their own devices, are likely to commit genocide.

This is why when people try to explain that Musk is a genius, I flinch. A smart man would see the problem here. People keep calling me a Nazi. Every time I start talking about Nazis I get unflattering headlines. Maybe I should stop making any comments about Nazis and, in this way, I will stop getting so much bad press.

That he fails to understand this problem and continues to step in it belies his genius status.

I baffled at what the end game is for the billionaires club now dismantling the federal government. The present system has served them well. They have wealth, power, and beautiful women. Talk about hitting the jackpot. What more can they want? More importantly, what possible good can come from the chaos they are creating in our system.

They have this mistaken notion that they can control the chaos. But chaos, by its very nature, is uncontrollable. A disorderly dismantling of government is just fun and games right now but the further gutting of a system that has worked remarkably well these past 230 years or so for what? To be replaced by what? Everyone will be free to do whatever they want to do. That is mighty vague.

But what does this mean about public schools which, by the way, the founding fathers supported without reservation. What about Social Security which provides retirement income and people paid for in their payroll taxes. What about the National Parks? What about the FAA? None of which are perfect and all of which have a necessary function. What do the stripped down versions of these look like after Trump and Musk get through with it.

The arrogance of these men is dumbfounding. They sit on billions of dollars all earned in a system that was highly favorable to billionaires making money. Yet this isn’t enough somehow. Call me old fashioned, even call me conservative, but I prefer orderly change which protects the institutions we have while also opening these institutions to gradual change. It is less traumatic and boring but there is a lot less chance that the goose that laid the golden egg will be murdered in the process.

I have been laid off twice in my career.

There is a way to do it that benefits the company eliminating the jobs while also minimizing the upset to the people losing their jobs. Donald Trump, a business genius no less, is doing it in the most careless and obnoxious way possible.

First, he and his DOGE stooges are laying off people and then discovering that they need these employees still. Musk, in his storied career, has repeatedly made this mistake. Most companies take a little time, particularly when there is no emergency, in learning what people do, assigning the tasks to retained employees so there is no gap in service and trying to put the laid off employees in the best position for a new position. Planning for the company’s sake, compassion for the people losing their jobs. Trump is doing neither. It is a shoddy mistake that gives retained employees and customers the impression that you don’t know what you are doing.

Planning requires a little more effort than looking at a spreadsheet and eliminating jobs. Doing this so quickly and without consideration to the repercussions is a costly mistake especially for businessmen of Trump and Musk’s supposed caliber. The abruptness could lead to rehires, gaps in services, and law suits. What money you saved from the layoffs will be eaten away in the chaos created by the layoffs. It isn’t they way to run a business successfully but then I doubt seriously if this is Trump or Musk’s intention. Destroying the Federal Government is much more like it.

The unalloyed glee that the DOGE boys are taking with their job is unforgivable. Laying people off is a sad task and it should be approached as a regrettable but necessary task. These guys are having way too much fun. People are losing their jobs. The DOGE boys may not like them, they may think their jobs are unnecessary, and they may think it is the right thing to do but they should respect the people they are putting out of a job. It is the very least they can do. Instead they are acting like a bunch of mean girls in high school who get to say who is in and who is out.

Trump and Musk are bullies. They enjoy laughing at others but are unable to take any ribbing at their own expense. They demand respect without giving any. The extraordinary number of people who have turned on them speaks volumes about their character. Nobody much likes Trump and Musk once they are free from their orbit. Let’s hope we all learn how to stand up to bullies in the ensuing few years.

To say I am dumbfounded by the proposed fight is an understatement. Why on earth would two successful businessmen fight it out in a cage? It proves nothing. It doesn’t prove who the smarter person is, or the better person, or the most courageous, or anything other than who is a better cage fighter.

They are acting like two high school boys planning an after school fight. Musk’s take on it is particularly embarrassing. He wants the Prime Minister of Italy to help him secure an ancient Roman site as the venue for the fight. A cage fight in a regular sports arena just isn’t enough for Musk, he wants a classical Roman feel about the event. There must be doric columns and ruins to capture the full scale importance of the fight. And this is from one of the most brilliant men on earth?

I thought Zuckerberg was being reasonable when he announced he was tired of waiting for Musk to commit to a date and, given Musk’s vague availability, has stated there may not be a cage fight after all. Of course, Musk, not willing to see this as an opportunity to gracefully bow out, upped the ante by calling Zuckerberg a chicken. Now, boys and girls, we all know what that means. You can’t call another boy a chicken, it is the worst possible insult. Once someone has been called a chicken there has to be a fight. It is a manner of honor now.

Thems the rules of after school fights. It is better to be beaten to a bloody pulp than to be called a chicken. Zuckerberg’s reputation is now at stake. If Zuckerberg doesn’t show up now, he knows he will be eating lunch with the nerds for the rest of his life. People will point at him and laugh.

In this day of hyper awareness over casual sexism it is a wonder that nobody is making a bigger deal out of the underlying reason for the cage fight. Men have to fight when challenged. There is no question. If he doesn’t, he is a coward. That two of the most powerful men in the world are wasting their talents and time on a cage fight match is disappointing enough but even more telling is that the world can’t wait to gather around the combatants to see them come to blows. I know I will be there.

And what lesson are boys learning from this. It is really swell. A boy must fight when challenged. There is no way to back down without damaging your reputation as a man. Although largely unspoken in today’s world, boys still thinks that the better fighter will be seen as the better man. So whenever the great minds of the world are pondering why young men are so violent, they might remember the lessons they learn at school because they are still very much at play.

Billionaire Elon Musk wants to limit the vote to people with children because children give parents a special interest in the future, so hence are better voters. He provides absolutely no proof that this is true other than parents have children and, because they do, they care more about the future than single people.

I am confused. When has voting ever been about the future? It is almost always about the now. Like how are we going to spend tax revenues now, how are we going to protect people from crime now, how are we going to educate people now, do we want to send troops to Afghanistan now — I could go on but you get my point. Politics is about how we live now and, though the future looms big in the background, what people in the present are actually worried about is what is going on now. Telling people that yes things are miserable now but it will payoff in thirty years for your children isn’t exactly a rousing campaign slogan for parents either.

The good news here is Musk ‘s proposal is dead upon arrival. Voting rights for women and minorities are enshrined in the U.S Constitution so that involves a constitutional amendment to change. I suppose he could introduce a Constitutional Amendment taking away the vote from single people but we all know it is a long an arduous process through 50 state legislature. Furthermore single people still can vote and, presumably would vote against the idea along with their friends that maybe parents.

Musk isn’t being serious. He is stirring the pot and it is interesting which pot he has chosen to put his spoon. Conservatives and Libertarians are going after limiting the vote. It’s not just making it difficult anymore, it is making it impossible to get your hands on a ballot in the first place. The implications are shocking, at least, shocking to me. He is saying that there are people who are more worthy of full citizenship than others and, if you want to know who he is thinking might be cut from the voting rolls, Musk has thrown is some ideas for your consideration.

But it aligns with Republican notions that if only the right people voted, that Republicans would win. And what do you know, married couples tend to vote Republican. Single men also vote Republican but less so than married people. Single women are the trouble for the Republicans and they vote overwhelming Democratic, so much so that it erases any advantage the Republicans get from the other three groups. Instead of working on changing the minds of single women, the Republicans have opted to change who can vote.

These ideas about limiting the vote are not isolated ideas either. It’s a topic that I keep seeing – particularly in Libertarian and Far Right circles. Columnist Michael Walsh proposed limiting the vote to men. He artfully never says women are incapable of rational thought but he quotes others to defend this notion. He describes how the ancient Romans felt that “women were never considered worthy of the vote. They were too emotional, too devious in their machinations, and certainly too weak to fight.” Really. Of course it is the Romans saying it, not Walsh. Really. Is it that surprising the Ancient Romans felt this way about women. Ancient Rome, you know, about two thousand years ago. Romans were also partial to slavery and viewed women as nothing more than vessels for the production of children. How much Roman wisdom does Walsh want us to incorporate into the modern American system? These attacks on the vote are also coming from all directions. The other day Seaford, Delaware tried to give the vote to non-resident business owners. This almost made it through the Delaware legislature.

This constant attack on the present franchise is worrisome. Take away the vote from women. Take away the vote from single people. Keep taking away voting rights until you get the electorate willing to vote your way. But it won’t be a functioning democracy. And what arrogance. The underlying assumption of these men is that they are more worthy than you and know what is best for you. That is if you’re single or a woman or both. Get it. I am waving my middle finger.

Elon Musk has compared Justin Trudeau to Hitler so we can all take hims a little less seriously. Any time that someone compares a person to Hitler you pretty much know that they stopped making sense and that all reasonable argument with this person is done. Musk believes Trudeau is Hitler because Trudeau mandated COVID vaccinations and declared a national emergency due to the truckers blocking Canadian roads and bridges.

While Trudeau has been behaving like Hitler, Canada still has a functioning legislature and a vocal opposition leader who daily challenges Trudeau. Canadian Courts are functioning. The truckers, as a matter of fact, are still actively protesting. He has not shut down opposition presses. Nobody has been sent to a concentration camp. In fact, to the best of my knowledge, there are no concentration camps yet in Canada at all. Canada still hasn’t invaded Poland or started a world war. But give Hitler, I mean Trudeau time, I am sure this will all happen in time.

Trudeau is trying to clear the roads and bridges that some protesters have blocked. These trucker’s actions are illegal and Canada’s government has every right to remove them. Now you may disagree with Trudeau about the vaccine mandates. Protest away, Trudeau isn’t stopping you unless you are blocking public thoroughfares. Trudeau maybe many things but Hitler is not one of them.

And just so you know, I feel the same way about Donald Trump. Trump may have some fascist tendencies but they pale when compared to Hitler. Until January 6, Trump worked through democratic institutions to get what he wanted. Those institutions held firm, resisted his actions and thwarted him. Even though he thought he was wronged and still complains about it, he left the White House on inauguration day and Biden became President. It wasn’t pretty and he behaved badly but he failed spectacularly to meet the high standards of evil that would merit a comparison to Hitler. It is, as it should be, a difficult standard to meet. The best example of someone who deserves the Hitler comparison is Pol Pot of Cambodia. Pol Pot rounded up his opponents, set up camps to house them and killed millions of Cambodians who’s only crime may have been possessing a college degree. Trudeau isn’t even Pol Pot at this point much less Hitler.

You have to ascend to a certain level of evil to deserve a Hitler comparison. Most people never come close. Trudeau is not Hitler. Trump is not Hitler. Instead of laying out a more nuanced argument, Musk resorted to name calling in the hopes that this comparison would move his audience to a quick agreement that something must be done about our local tyrant. I am afraid it only weakens whatever argument he was trying to make because, really, if you think Justin Trudeau is Hitler then what else can he be wrong about?
